View Full Version : vB or UBB, that's the question

I'm scratching my head, here is the dilemma:

Currently I'm using UBB on a slower server, running Red Hat, Apache with 64MB RAM. We have a dosen of forums, with about 5000 users and 40,000 posts.

I used to believe a php/sql solution would work much better than UBB and was happy to find vB, however there seem to be some mixed feelings on its performance vs. UBB.

As I said, I'd like to get rid of UBB to reduce load on the server, is vB faster under similar load ?

TIA for any comments/suggestions.

From what I have seen vBulletin is much faster then UBB... and only uses 10% of the disk space for your posts. Your post doesn't say have many concurrent users/page views you have, but 64MB of RAM is a bit light, I would go for at least 128MB. Also, if you have a larger board, you will probably have to do some MySQL database tuning, the defaults are great for smaller sites, but need to be increased for larger installations.
