[Suggestion] Option in userCP to auto receive updates in own threads/posts

Hi all

Here is a small suggestion that could be usefull...

An option in the user CP that allows any user to automatically receive updates to his/her own threads/posts. Personnally, I subscribe to any thread I initiate especially on large forums.

It's already there. :) User CP > Edit Options > "Use 'Email Notification' by default?"

but i didn't mean email notification, i meant to subscribe to the thread so that it appears in your user CP.

but maybe using email notification also make you subscribe to the thread ?

No, it doesn't subscribe you. However, I think this option not that good since the more threads you open, the more subscribed threads you have. This makes not a good overview. There should then also be sth which automatically unsubscribes after a certain time or so.

I agree ....
like when a thread is deleted, is the subscription also deleted for any user subscribed ?
But i maintain that an *option* is great, like email notification we should have auto thread subscription

At this point in time, email notification and subscribing to a thread do exactly the same thing...

1) You get an email saying there are new messages.

2) It gets added to your subscribed thread list in the user control panel.

If you want to unsubscribe from an old thread you can do so in the user CP. Also when a thread is deleted so are all the notifications, though even if they weren't it wouldn't hurt anything.

so if i understand well, i could rename :

"Email Notification: emails sent to you whenever someone replies. Only registered users are eligible"

at the bottom of each new thread/post into : "Notify me by email & subscribe me".

correct?

also if I want to disable email notification and alow only subsciption through this option, will it work (i'll rename it : "Subscribe me to this thread/post") ?

You could do that but it wouldn't change anything. Thread Subscription and Email Notification are exactly the same thing - you can't (at this time) have one without the other.

at this time, i have disabled all email options, so enabling this notification will *only* subscribe me to the thread.

btw : if i manually subscribe to the thread, and if i edit later on the checkbox is not checked beside Email notification, why is that? since both are the same thing. (maybe a bug? cause when repling, the checkbox gets checked)
