I suggest that editing unregistered usernames in posts is possible.

There's no user to link them too, You'd have to manually modify it on a per post basis and rebuild counters, etc.

You wouldn't need to rebuild counters, unless there are things associated with the username in tables other than post and thread (why would there be?). If you're only renaming one user, anyway, I'm not clear on why it can't just run all the appropriate SQL queries for that one user to start with as soon as you do the renaming, rather than requiring you to run them for possibly tens of thousands of users.

I don't quite see the need for this. I'd rather moderate such posts to make sure that what's posted is posh&proper.

If that guest user signs up later on, you can associate their Guest posts with their Registered account (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=100615).
You can safely ignore all the references to EZBoard.

Moderating includes editing posts. Editing the username is quite useful as editing the title or message body. Since the user is unregistered, it can be done on a per post basis.
