Can I import/export using the same db?

At the moment I'm running a phpbb forum and am migrating to vBulletin. I have my test vBulletin forum running now on the same server and database as my existing phpbb forum.

When running the import, can I use the same database to export the data from and import it to? i.e. my config file will be pointing at the same database for source and target?
