Hi,

I have had my forum around 1 year now and its been quite popular. I am running phpBB2 at the moment.

I decided to start fresh (but keep members, posts and topics)

So I asked around and vBulletin seems the best. It has a good forum, a portal system, nice skins, and all the mods I would ever need.

£91 for the forum for life with no other extra monthly fee's sounds good.

So before I buy I would like to ask a few questions that I have:

1) Can I take the members, posts and topics from phpBB and convert them over to a fresh vBulletin forum board?
2) When I get a template/skin, if I have the portal system (vbAdvanced I think its called) does the same template work on both at the same time?
3) Once I pay £91 and get my vBulletin software, do you get it via download, or does it get mailed out to you (please say download)?
4) In the future if I decide to shut my site down, is it legal for me to sell my vBulletin board subscription over to someone else?

Thats all the questions I have just now, hope to hear back soon.

Thanks,

Rowan

1. Yes, we have an import script for phpBB. You can read about it here:

http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_phpbb2

2. vBAdvanced is a third-party add-on so you'd have to ask them, but I'd be surprised if they didn't use the vB style settings.

3. You get a customer number and password which you can use to access the members area and download the software.

4. The policy states:

Jelsoft may, in its discretion, allow you to transfer your license to another party, providing the license:
- has not already been transferred in the previous 12 months; and
- was purchased more than 3 months in the past.
-is an active owned license
*Please note, leased licenses are not eligible for transfer

You can read this policy under the license agreement here:

Thanks man, that cleared all that up. I think I will buy today, then my members are going to donate to me to help cover the costs.

When I mean about selling it it will be in like a couple of years when I cant run the site anymore and want to pass it on to a younger member of staff.

Thanks again and look forward to using vBulletin.

Ok I just bought the full version there for £106.

I just noticed though it says expires May 07th '08.

I thought it was full, and it was yours forever.

It means that the ability to upgrade to the higher versions is good for one year. You can still use any versions created up to your expirery date forever.
