Ok, so I finally decided I am going to go through the process of upgrading from 3.5.4 to 3.6.5 as there are many new plugins and such I would like to use, but not many people support 3.5.4 anymore for current stuff.

In any event, I have a few questions regarding the upgrade process:

1. I have many plugins and modifications installed (including CMPS) on my 3.5.4 board. Will i need to uninstall or return my forum back to default before I can perform this upgrade?

2. Is there any other steps other than performing a backup, then uploading the new 3.6.5 files, then running the upgrade.php? I was reading somewhere about having to possibly unhook something? not sure if that applied...

I think this is my main questions at the moment. i am running through a test upgrade....installing a fresh copy of 3.5.4 and importing my back-up test forum (with modifications and plugins) into the new 3.5.4, then attempting to do the upgrade process.

Please let me know though! Any help is greatly appreciated! I'll post more questions when the cross my mind :) Thanks in advance!

1. Upgrading will always overwrite any hacks or changes you made to the vB files. Upgrading will not overwrite any add-ons through Plugins, although you may find that your plugins will need to be updated to work with the latest version of vB.

Also upgrading will not overwrite custom templates. Nonetheless you should seriously consider reverting any updated templates to get the full advantage of all bug fixes and improvements. This is particularl true when upgrading from 3.5 to 3.6.

2. That's about it, although you might want to use the 3.6.5 config.php file too.

so pretty much any plugins and modifications just get overwritten when performing an upgrade? I would be able to run an upgrade on my 3.5.4 vbulletin to the 3.6.5 without uninstalling or removing anything (incluidng cmps) and it will just all revert to default?

or after I run the upgrade I will have to manually uninstall/upgrade each plugin for it to work then?

No, that's not what I said at all.
