IPB invision power board forums has 2 admin groups in the admin cp

1. a Root admin group and
2. a normal admin group where the normal admins cannot edit or delete any members accounts who are in the Root admin group, they also can't edit
the Root admin group.

Does vbulletin also have this feature????

In vB, you can protect the specified users from deletion by adding their user id's into the /includes/config.php file under the Undeletable/Unalterable users section. And, any such users cannot be edited from the AdminCP as well.

vBulletin has Super Administrator and Administrator. Super Administrator can limit what each Administrator can and can't do in the AdminCP.

Admins and smods yes but not sadmins and admins, however you can use access masks to set who can see which forum :).

Super Administrator is not a usergroup. It is something set in /includes/config.php.

As a result, there is no way to hide that forum from Admins but not Super Admins through forum permissions.

You could use the user-specific Access Masks system (which I suggest people only use when Usergroup-based permissions just will not do what they want) to hide and show the forum on a user-by-user basis.

ok thank you

I'm going to be buying the vbulletin software with another person and I'd like to set both of us as super admins and then set maybe 1 or 2 other people as admins

however I want one forum that I can discuss things with my partner that the other admins will not be able to see

it looks like I can with the access mask system though ?

thanks

Yes.

Yes.

Uhhh... He'd have to make sure that the other admins don't have the "Can Administer User Permissions" privilege though, otherwise they'd be able to add themselves to the mask.

Just make them uneditable. ;)

Your admins. vBulletin allows you to make it so some users cannot be edited via the admin control panel.

so if I make them uneditable then I can mask certain forums from them and they cannot see they are masked ?

thanks right now I'm running phpbb and this is one of the main reasons I'm considering vBulletin

Create a new usergroup, edit the existing admin group, or edit the config.php file to add users to "super user".

I'm sure the topic starter is confused.

The way to set up a forum for only super adminstrators to see is create a new usergroup. Add both you and your partner to the new usergroup. Once you create your private forums you can edit the forum permissions to disallow everyone except the usergroup you've just created from viewing the private forums.

You can deny permissions for the regular admins from editing the usergroups.

If you do not trust the user to be administrator then why make him admin in the first place?

trust isn't the issue

the issue is my partner and I want to be able to discuss certain things which I don't want the other admins to see

the reason we are having admins is because we can't be on the forum alot of the time

Then have super moderators? Administrators with the ability to change usergroups or set access masks or edit forums will be able to get into things they possibly shouldn't.

What do these users who are not you and your partner need to be able to do

that's just it

I trust them to do the above mentioned things and want them to have the ability to do so

I just want one forum they cannot see and to not have the ability to delete or modify our two accts.

If you give them all of that access, then they have it and it becomes a trust issue if the forums are hidden. You can make yourself, and your other administrator uneditable, and them as well, but they could easily change the forum permissions to allow themselfs to see it. Theres no way around it.

ok so what is the difference between admins and super moderators ?

Zachery

Administrators have access to the admincp and what you let them access in it, super moderators are global moderators, by default they have full moderator access to any forums they can see. If they cannot access a forum they cannot moderate it.
