View Full Version : Registration Requirement

Hi, I am in the process of configuring my new installation of vBulletin. I wanted to see how the posting process "acted" with registration required and then with no registration required. In order to temporarily turn off the registration requirement, I clicked "Modify" under the User Groups and Permissions item. I then clicked "edit" on the Unregistered / Not Logged In category, and changed the "Can post new threads" and "Can reply" radio buttons from No to Yes. Clicked Submit and it had the desired effect; I logged out, then went back into the board without logging in. As expected, I now was able to post (no password was needed) without logging in and without registering.

When I got ready to switch the permission back, to disallow posts from unregistered users, I logged in as Administrator and repeated the steps above. I was surprised that the radio buttons were not where I had left them - they were already marked back to "no". I submitted again anyway, but now my forum still allows me to post with a bogus username and no password. Now I can't seem to reset the forum back like it was, which was requiring registration. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
Lawson

No, not at all. You're still a registered member with the same userid and password that you originally set up.

Martin, I fixed it somehow, but I'm not sure what really happened. In the admin area, It looked as though I had accidentally created some kind of special user subgroup (record)? under the "Unregistered" Category that had no registration requirement. Then every time that I tried to set it back, I was just creating another "record" with the default settings. So I had several records (not really sure what they are) showing up under the Unregistered group - one that didn't need registration and the rest that did. The registration requirements reset to the defaults after I deleted all of those extra records. If this drivel makes any sense to you, please give me an explanation. If not, I understand.........

when you were modifying, were you using your back button to try again?

No, I just kept going back into the control panel thru the admin path and choosing "modify" under the User Groups and Permissions area. Then I'd do "submit", then log out and go try again.......
