Looking into a VPS for our site. The forum currently consists of 2600 members, with an average of 120 users (combined members, guests and search bots) online at any given time. The membership is constantly growing and I fully expect that within 1.5 years to have 4000 members on board with current online being somewhere around 200-250. The question is, how much RAM do I need?

I don't think a VPS is the right choice for you. That's alot of members that you will have online. The price you will pay for a VPS with that power is to high. You are better off with a dedicated server. Go to webhostingtalk.com you will find very affordable Servers.
