Ok right now I'm on shared hosting and my host is telling me my php is crashing the server. I have vb running with about 150 users, but the most ever on at once was 20, I'm thinking my host is just not good.
I am hoping to continually grow my site so definatly need something better.

I called godaddy to ask them about shared hosting and they tell me that they allow 150 concurrent connections, now if I have 150 people logged in to vb is that 150 concurrent, or since people aren't actively clicking links at the same time is it less? Just wondering how it all works.

Looking to hopefully have over 5-600 users within a year and keep growing. I'm guessing with 5-600 I would rarely have 150 users on at once if ever, so would I be safe with shared still? I am also running coppermine photogallery on the site, but thats basically it.

Suggestions and any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey, I'm like you...sick and tired of these dumb b/s hosting companies. Who give you so many unlimited resources but then you can't use them. How do database connections work? If your host says that it gives you 150 connections, then he is lying to you. What that means is that 150 people would click at the same time and get connection to the database. What happens if your host has 200 sites on the server, the server will crash. The gallery that you are running is very resource intensive. I don't know what else to tell you but that you should move to a new host.

By the way, the most that you will get from a shared hosting account is 20-25 connections.

Thanks for the information, the 150 number actually came from godaddy when I inquired about thier shared hosting. My host chihost.com has not told me what they actually provide. I wasn't really sure how intensive coppermine was, they did tell me thats what was bogging the server down, so I promised to disable it to get my account un-suspended. But I still think its not good, so I am actively searching for a new host. I don't think I need a VPS yet, but who knows. I do prefer a linux server, but if I had to manage one I know server 2003 alot better than linux so it would be tough to choose.

On the gallery note is there one thats better on server resources?

150 concurrent users is enough to get you thrown off most shared servers. It's time to look at a semi-dedicated or dedicated option.
