If your server is running PHP as CGI, you might need to reset the permissions on the PHP files to 755. Also, make sure they were uploaded in ASCII mode...

If what martin said is the case on your server you may also have to actually chmode the php files to 755 and possibly include a path to perl.

I know that is not maybe normal, but that is how a small shared account I have with Interland operates.

Luckily I dont have to worry about that sort of things with the dedicated accounts:)

well cntrl+shift+a will allow you to chmode, but I would check with your host if you need that before you do it!

Well it does on my version (3.0 I believe) on a PC.

It should be under:

commands>advanced commands>change file atributes

as well. Or you could look in the help for a second and find out as well right?

Is it safe to assume that the test PHP file didn't work either?

Did it tell you PHP wasn't installed correctly or did it give you an ISE? If its the former, try renaming it to .php3 and then browsing to it.

Otherwise you may need a Perl-like shebang line on some of the scripts. I believe Stallion successfully set it up this way.

Try renaming the test file like Ed Sullivan said. If that works then fine, if not, try putting the test PHP file in the cgi-bin and chmoding it to 755, and if that does not work, then try and put the path to php in the first line of the test script.

If none of the above work on that test file, then you should consult your hosting company for a little insight.

I would try a couple of things on that test script first, but dont try doing it to all of the forum scripts until you know what is going to work.

What host is this anyway?

I have a feeling that this may be to do with the headers being sent. I had a few problems in the beta, but I thought that I had got rid of them. Have a look at your error log and see if you can identify a more helpful error message.

If it is something to do with the headers, add this line at the begninning of both your global.php files:

<?
$noheader=1;

The error log will be with the rest of your web server somewhere on the hard drive. I cannot be more specific unless you provide more details about the web server software.

BTW, did my suggestion help at all?

Is it just index.php that does not work, or is it all the files?

Thanks,
John

Is the installtemplate.php file there on the server? Make sure that it is and upload it if it is not.

I will reply to your email in a few moments - I keep on trying though the web interface to my email, but it keeps on crashing.

Can you confirm that my suggestion earlier did not help?

Be patient, it has only been 10 min. since your last post!

Can you provide any further information about your hosting, and server? That may actually help.

Just be paitent I have been waiting 2 days for my hosting company ( http://www.www-hosting.net ) to get back to me about adding an MySQL account for me. I had a dead line and missed it because of the hosts Tech Support number having an automated message saying " not available call back at another time" hehe :)
