For too many reasons to count, I would really love to see both total posts AND post count be availlable for various features instead of just post count.
I love the way vB has set up "post count" so that posts only count in designated forums and it is a VERY useful feature that should never be taken away. However .. I really can't understand why it has to be there "instead of" (as opposed to "side by side with") a hard count of actual total posts.
From an admin side there are so many reasons why it's useful to have a hard count availlable of members and it seems like something extremely easy to impliment as it would basically run side by side with post count using the exact same code except that it wouldn't exclude any forums that a forums' post count might exclude.

Well it kind of defeats the purpose of not the forums not counting towards your post count. If you want that just make sure all forums add up to your post count :).

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say at all here .. maybe you have a small forum where most members have a similar number of total posts to post count so it doesn't matter so much. Or maybe you only have a minority of forums where posts don't count towards post count.
I love how vB has set up post count. I have some forums that I find more important to my site and as such I only want posts to count in those forums (I call them core forums).
HOWEVER .. as an admin .. there are times when I really would ALSO like to have quick access to total posts for strictly management reasons.
This is important when it comes to looking for new registrations that spam as now when I take a peek at recent registrations, some spammers can have a post count of ZERO even if they've spammed (in non-core forums). As an admin (and for my moderators) it would be extremely helpful to be able to have access to both numbers (at least on the admin side of things).
Also .. when I have a member who we found has regularly posted outside the limits of our rules .. it's essential to have an accurate idea of how many posts he/she has actually made so we can figure out what we need to do. Our approach is very different for someone who has made 5 posts as opposed to 300 posts .. and in my forums sometimes someone with 300 total posts only actually have a post count of 5 .. which IS GREAT for what the general public sees .. because it's exactly what I want .. but as an admin/mod I ALSO want to see that 300 total post number because it's crucial in helping me decide what to do as an admin/moderator.
Another reason is that in my forums there are some members with hundreds of actual total posts who have a post count of only 10 or 20. Some of the people in question are very helpful in their own ways .. but for others, my moderator team usually likes to approach members who only post in non-core forums and invite them to also participate in some core forums.
The list of good reasons to at least have quick admin access to the actual total post count could go on and on .. but I think the above covers some good ones .. and I'll just add that as an admin it's always better to have access to all essential information about your members .. and quite frankly the real actual number of total posts a member has made is about as essential and important as you can get!
Anyhow .. hope that expains my reasons better! :)
