We just moved our Forum away from Netfirms for the following reasons: not only did the forum run very slowly, it had repeated database errors, pages constantly could not be found, and when we asked for help from their tech people, the response (which usually came several days later) was, "We looked at it and it was working fine when we saw it." They were never willing to actually look into it, despite the fact that we sent them copy after copy of database error messages. Backing up the Forum to move it was a nightmare. Even though our forum wasn't huge (200 MB), we did not have permissions to back it up ourselves (it timed out every time). In fact, their phone tech people didn't have permission either. To simply back up the database it had to be referred to a higher level person - and it took over a week to get it done.

We're with a new host and happier so far.

I had to move to another HP 2 years ago with the same reason, but there are a lot of changes and I think they support VB. But...

That's a sad story to hear from you. In fact everyone must have access or should look for regular backups at least weekly, while choosing a host. That's the safest side, even server get crashed you have your data backed up, not dependent on any one.

I have now the same problem with database errors. This thing is proportional with number of visits. They told me that is insecurity problem but I think that is problem with server optimization. I have around 100 users online
