Hi Guys,

Just noticed that I posted this at vbulletin.org and not .com. Oh well suppose i better post it here :) I am basically sitting on the order page waiting to pay but just have one question really. Is there a mod or even commercial script for vbulletin which allows you to give users there own forum... Ok yes you could just give a user moderator rights but I am wishing to go into more depth.

We are a GSP and wish to give our customers a subforum on our main set of forums for there clan's needs rather than them installing PHPbb via there free webhosting and within 2 weeks it has been hacked to crap because of the mountain of security holes. With there subforum they can add sub forums etc etc. I know it was possible with IPB but I guess because it used to be free and there once stand point that they would never charge for users to use IPB that I strongly refuse to even consider it commercially.

Hope to hear from you soon.

-Chris

I'm sorry, but "forum hosting" is NOT a feature of vBulletin and the license does not permit it.

Perhaps at some later date, there will be a $999 or $1999 site license or hosting license. There is no mention, hint, rumor, or confirmation that such a license is possible or being considered!!

Just to clarify, these would all be on the same site (not running 3 or 4 different installs). Take it is just not possible?

The license agreement (http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php) for vBulletin is as followed:

The Software is licensed only to you. You may not rent, lease, sublicence, sell, assign, pledge, transfer or otherwise dispose of the Software in any form, on a temporary or permanent basis, without the prior written consent of Jelsoft.

If he's only running one instance of vB that he still controls that's not the relevant portion. In that light you couldn't even have moderators (other than yourself).

My answer still stands. This is NOT permitted by the vBulletin license.

feldon23 is correct. This is not allowed by the license agreement. Hopefully you will consider this the official answer now. :)

Maybe I am confused. Is he speaking of forums as in vBulletin itself is a forum or does he mean forums as in forums you create within vBulletin?

For example you see a lot of automobile interest sites where there are sub-forums for the different local racing clubs.

peace . . .

I think the thread starter wants to set up a forum (like you would do in the ACP under Forum Manager) for users.
I don't know of any script that does what you'rer asking for.

A big difference is that the admin of that forum creates the forums because he wants to draw in discussions about that particular subject

The thread started wants everyday users to be able to create forums without admin assistance.

I see what you mean.

So letting everyday users create forums is against the license agrement?

My answer would be "use a little common sense" :)

I have a quick question about this - I am a member of a vB forum that had a feature where there was one category called, for example:

"Hotel"

within that category, each member was able to generate one subforum that they could name and have moderation controls over. They were able to have a single subforum that was their own personal "Hotel Room". Other members could then ask to be let in, and allowed to post. They could only be a "visitor" in that "room" if the "owner" approved it, otherwise the "room" was private.

Admins obviously overrode anything and it was still a part of the regular forum as a whole

I kind of thought that this is what the OP meant. Was that a supported vB.org hack?

It's not even a built-in feature of vBulletin.

Maybe at the very least, it will help the OP?
