I think I'm going to buy today. I was looking at invision boards and did their demo, I liked how things were organized, but the feel of the board itself didn't have the vibe I like. I prefer vBulletin's vibe.

About backgrounds. I want to have a fixed background like vbulletin.org has that surrounds the forum itself (not looking like vbulletin.org but fixed in the same manner). But I haven't a clue how this is done. On each side of my forum I want to have a verticle banner that is always hugging the forum on both sides and regardless of the size of one's window, I want it to not be shifting all over the place.

How do I do this? Any posts explaining this?

fixed background is not really the term, it's fixed width.

It takes typing a number (instead of a percentage like 100%) in one box in a configuration panel to do it.

at vbulletin.org when I shrink the window size from right to left, the main area for the forum moves over to the left, and the blue sided background moves along with it. Is this what fixed width allows?

when I right click on the blue area on each side of the forum, there is a long horizontal line. This line repeats like a background tile on each side of the forum. Is this all I have to do, is create a background tile and somehow fix it to the forum area so when the window size is decreased from right to left, it will follow along with my forum so it looks like its always a border along the side of my forum?

Scroll down to the bottom of the forum here at vBulletin.com.

On the left side you should see a popup menu. Change the setting from vBulletin 3 Fixed to vBulletin 3 Liquid to see the difference.

I think fixed width is overrated and just makes life easier for designers. I do not fix a width in most of my web designs.
