Is there any way to make the author of a thread appear to the right of the topic title, like in older version or like phpBB/Invision? I noticed that it is now under the topic title, and I can't stand that.

Is there an option, or does it have to be custom-modified or what?

Yes that requires editing the templates which shouldnt be too hard if you know basic html :).

This can be done with a plug-in and some minor code edits.

MAD is right, it takes a few template modifications.

There are some plug-ins that add the functionality, but still require a few template edits for the changes to be visible. Many plug-ins that deal with the thread starter column or the postbit tend to operate like this.

I'm guessing these plugins rewrite the HTML output, so in essence are short-circuiting the template system. I guess I can see the benefit since template mods require redoing with each new upgrade. But there's also a performance drain.
