I posted in the "pre sales" forum already about upgrading and moving,
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=213311
whats my first step?
Install 3.6.4 on the new server? I already closed my forums and made a backup of the database thru the adminCP. I cant access anything beyond that on the old server.
thanks :D

I would move the db and files first, make sure everything is working, then upgrade.

There inlays my problem, I cant reinstall the original board, VB 3.0.0 Gold[?]
should I import the db into mysql alone?
I could probably import the db on the new server, save the users/posts from there thru mysql, then load it into a 2nd db containing the 3.6.4 db files? haha I hope Im not confusing myself.
Thanks again!

I didn't say anything about reinstalling 3.0.0. I said move the files and database first and make sure everything works. Then upgrade.
That is what I would do but of course you are free to do it the other way around if you want - upgrade, then move.

Well I guess I wasnt clear on what you meant by "make sure everything works." I didnt know you could just copy everything over and have it work, I thought there was some re-installing going on, my mistake.
but basically I tell the forum to look for the database again? because the db name will have changed in the move. config.php right?
I will try that and go from there, thanks

Yes, you may very well have a different db name on the new server.

yeah its not working, I forgot I cant FTP the old server  [longer story]
Looks like Ill have to install 3.6.4 and import the users/posts the good 'ol fashioned way? If I can figure that one out lol, whats the best way of going about that?

I would not import. I would upload the 3.6.4 files and upgrade.

ok sorry if Im askin too much here, but your saying I can just upgrade "nothing" [meaning the backup database in its new home] and I will come out with my original forums "upgraded"? .... sounds good to me, Ill try it.

You need to copy the existing database to the new server first before you can upgrade.
And your latest posts doesn't give any info about what you have done are or doing when you get that error.

yeah exactly, I copied my backup of the database into mysql on the new server 1st. I then pointed the config.php file to that database, after that I tried to do the upgrade procedure as per vB install notes and got that error ...

Then this means that either your database is not completely restored, or you are using the wrong table prefix.

apparently I no longer have a prefix? does this sound normal?
I changed the values to:
$config['Database']['tableprefix'] = '';
and I was allowed to continue with the upgrade... asked for my Customer Number.

Ok this is gettin ridiculous.... It took my host a week to import the database, cause they wont let me do it, now this .. it came up with a file index of nothing at the end of the upgrade, located here:
Index of /forums/install/upgrade_350rc2.php
If its possible that my ftp client didnt overwrite some files on the server while uploading the 3.6.4 install files, would that be the problem? and what do I do?? My forums been down a week and I thought I solved this ****!!
thanks...
