Im just curious....Ive been checking out vbulletin for a few weeks now and I am seriously considering buying me a copy. I was just wondering do the developers release new versions regularly that include features requested by users, or will I need to hack in most of my features?

I guess I look at the way ubb is (where they never listen to the customers) and I hope vbulletin isnt like that.

Can someone shine some light on this for me?

Thanks all,

There are frequent updates adding features.

Ironically, about 2 days after the program was released, I wrote a quick Memberlist hack, and in the next version it was incoporated.

What's been referred to as the "summer release" will add many features standard, including a more user friendly usergroup system, custom styles for each forum, and hacks such as private messaging.

The reason you won't have seen many updates recently is because John is off in seclusion developing this "summer release".

So, basically - the vB developers don't resemble the UBB ones :)

I have to agree here... I just converted from UBB, but John & James are always very open minded about the product, and adding in new features. I am glad I made the switch :)

I have to agree as well, I don't think you'll here any complaints from people who switched from UBB, or any other software for that matter.

Well let me weight this consideration:
Frequent updates incorporating the great hacks was and is a major consideration for me.

I really disliked how slow the hacks implementation were in UBB. (I switched from UBB, and I'm really glad I made the switch).

I've also been checking out vBulletin for the past few weeks. I'm currently using UBB & am expecting vB's summer release to blow UBB out of the water (not that it doesn't already do so). I'll probably be purchasing & switching over to vBulletin right after the summer release is avail.

There seems to be a strong focus on vBulletin by the developers, compared to InfoPop's (lack of) focus on UBB. All the goods seem to be going into OpenTopic, which still doesn't seem to hold a candle to vBulletin.

To the developers: keep up the good work! :)
