I been wanting to update my forum but i havent really ahd the guts to do it.
but i have decided that iam going to give it a shot.
Just a couple of questions. Iam much of a newbie sorry = /

-I need to make a backup right? and turn off my forum?

Also i dont have to do anything with the config.php file either right?
Also one of my major concerns are my mods, should i disable them before upgrading? what about my arcade? Will this delete all my skins?

and last thing, ive read about ussing some ssh telnet or something to make the backup, I have NO idea whats all that, i made a normal backup from the adminCP but i guess that wont work right?

Yes, you should make a backup of the database and close your forums.

Your 3.6 config.php file will be fine.

Upgrading will always overwrite any hacks or changes you made to the vB files. Upgrading will not overwrite any add-ons through Plugins, although you may find that your plugins will need to be updated to work with the latest version of vB.

Also upgrading will not overwrite custom templates. Nonetheless you should seriously consider reverting any updated templates to get the full advantage of all bug fixes and improvements

thanks for replying, will it make a difference if i disable them first?

also my forum is not that big, i believe If i made a backup through adminCP and in the sql file i get this at the end ### VBULLETIN DATABASE DUMP COMPLETED ###
does that mean i have a complete backup and i wont have to do all the hassle of making it though ssh/telnet

one last thing, if i upload/overwrite files, i shopuld have any problems right?

If you shout off your forums it doesn't matter if you disable the plugins or not.

That should be an indication that the backup is good, but no guarantee of course.

Amd you do have to overwrite the vB files when you upgrade (except the images). That is a normal part of the upgrade process.
