Hey,

Ive been running this forum since about 1999, with constant upgrades and a couple fresh installs, something has always carried through from generation to generation so to speak; whether a hack or a style element, whatever.

The forum is rather large, and Ive got a lot of tables in the database from add ons I no longer use (such as the arcade for example), and I would like to clean things up so that the database is smaller and quicker.

Basically I would like a totally fresh install of vBulletin, but I would like to keep all the users, threads, posts and things that go with it (ie. attachments, PMs, etc etc).

What is the best and safest way of doing this? I was thinking about setting up a separate server, which I can do, doing a fresh install, and copying over the database, but how do I do it so I only copy over the things I want? Will this work? Is there an easier way to do it?

Thanks in advance. (Im currently running 3.5.2 - patched.)

You could install a new copy of vB to a new database, then use Impex to import the old data to the new one. Please read the online Impex import instructions here:

http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex?manualversion=30501500

Also please view the 'After the Import' instructions here:

http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_cleanup?manualversion=30501500

Note: This *will* change all your existing user, post, thread and forum ID numbers.

Change them how exactly?

Change them in that the existing IDs will no longer be accurate and they will get new IDs.
