mysql question with upgrade

i want to upgrade to the latest version the server that i'm on the the php is 4.4.1 but the mysql is only 4.0.15-nt im at 3.5.1 and want to upgrade to 3.6.4

You will need to upgrade your version of MySQL before you can upgrade to 3.6.x. If this is a shared server then contact your host and request that they upgrade. If this is a dedicated server or a VPS then you can either build from source (not recommended) or use a pre-built package for your distro.
