Before I purchase vBulletin, I want to be sure that I can install within a currently username/password protected portion of our site, which can only be accessed by our clients. I understand it would be difficult to bridge the username/password login between the two (our secure site and vBulletin) and will tackle that at a later date. Right now, I just want to see if I can set it up so that only my clients will even know the bulletin board exists, and then would have the option of registering if they want. Any insights would be appreciated. Thx.

Yes you could do this by simply giving them the URL when they purchase, in a welcome email or something, as for the bridging it can be done, and vBulletin also has permission features which could allow you to make the forum public and for users to register and have a category for only people in a customer group so normal registered users cannot see it.
