There is next-to-no point in leasing/buying a server like that and then saddling it with a pair of 7200 RPM drives as they're going to choke your server.

How many online users do you have at a time? How many posts? Have you already had your httpd and mysql configs optimized?

Best to provideinfo asked at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70117 first so we can know your current server loads... thee dual xeon 5130 woodcrest server is very powerful and is alot better than your current setup, but without knowing info asked at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70117 we can not be sure if it's the best upgrade path.

I have same question.

I need a dedicated and I'm looking theplanet dedicated details. there write:

Single Woodcrest Series - SAS Single Intel Woodcrest 5130 Dual Core 146GB, 10K RPM SCSI/SAS Hard Drive 2048 MB RAM

and

Dual Xeon Series - SCSI - Max 6 drives Intel Dual Xeon 2.8GHz Processor 2 x 73 GB SCSI ECC Registered 2048 MB RAM

I have 110.000 members, 30.000 Threads, 200.000 Posts and Cookie time 900 seconds. 600 user Online.

The second server is quite a bit slower but if it has RAID 1 on those drives then you might be better off.

What's your price range? Have you looked at their "Conroe w/ SAS" mid-level system? You can have a second 146GB 10K drive added, as well as a RAID 1 controller for a total of $319/mo and the processor is faster as well.

I was actually thinking of replacing one of the second server you mentioned with one of these (right now it's hosting some mission-critical stuff unrelated to forums and it's getting a bit tight on those 73GB drives).

I can pay 319$ / Month.

Why 2 HDD drive?

(I have no experience having a server of my own, this will be the first.)

Thanks

RAID 1 will mirror a pair of hard drives. This way, if one fails, your system will keep running (albeit, probably with alarms going off). This is not, however, an excuse to not backup your data, so make sure that you still do so.
