Hi,

We recently upgraded our site from 353 to 364 and we are seeing very high load on our web servers. Before digging deeper into the problem I wanted to see if this new version users much more server resources or requires new server tuning.

Sites are BigSoccer/BigFooty which eva2000 knows quite well - 5 web servers, 3 db servers.

Thanks.

Hey there :)

Yeah vB 3.6.x branch will use more web end resources than previous versions due to the feature set it has but use less or more optimal resources on mysql end.

Since you have 5 web servers, you might want to try on 1 or 2 web servers changing apache web server to using litespeed web server software http://litespeedtech.com/products/webserver/benchmark/

Alot more lean web server than Apache and seems to have helped Alex cope with his vB related server loads on www.disboards.com

I haven't used litespeed myself, but from what Alex has stated it's been very very helpful for keeping web side resource usage under control.

Litespeed has a free version and enterprise (commercial) version with 30 day trial option.

Interesting. Well, I guess this is a good thing since it's easier to scale web servers than DB servers. We recently installed Zend on our web servers for a different project and I was thinking this could be causing the problem. Do you recommend one of the accelerators such as Zend over any of the others?

Also, we're seeing much higher db load since the upgrade as well. Is this to be expected?

Well in a way yes there's a bit more server resource usage to be expected. How much higher db load we are talking about ?

have you tried eaccelerator or APC Cache... try one at a time and see if either helps..

since you do have more than 1 web server, i'd highly recommend trying litespeed web server instead of apache on 1 and see how it goes
