I run a pretty modest board that doesn't seem to be getting anywhere.
Recently I've been looking into search engine optimization for my forums in hopes to increase traffic and activity.

I'm looking to implement minor SEO techniques.

The reason I outline the word MINOR is because in my experience VBulletin is developing new versions of the software at a really fast rate and due to that fact I really don't want to install too many products/plugins and i certainly would HATE to edit any PHP files. So far im doing good at this. I have about 3 hacks installed that are really important to me.
I figured VBuletin.com would be the best place to post about this because you guys aren't a hacking site.

If anyone could please post the basics about VBulletin SEO in this thread I would really appreciate it.

So far the only step I have taken with SEO is that I have shortened my keywords and revised my meta description.

keywords
New York WebDevleoper Webdesign Design SEO Optimization Vector 3D Contest Graphics Coding Scripting Deviant Tutorial Job ny-dev

description
Webdeveloper discussion board based out of New York. Discuss and share tips and tricks related to webdevelopment and design. Create a member gallery to showcase your work

any opinions on my current descrition and keywords would also be greatly appreciated.

There's many aspects to SEO, and you have really only just scraped the surface.

Currently, you have no Page Rank on Google (I think the next update is in January). You should have some sort of page rank, or you don't receive many visitors from search engines.

You have between 200-300 pages indexed on Google - you can find this information out by going to Google and typing site:ny-dev.com in the search box. This also works with Yahoo, MSN, etc...

Try and get your site listed in link directories - relevant to your site.

Perhaps consider investing in a major SEO modifcation like vBSEO, it's commercial but will make your urls more search engine friendly.

www.vbseo.com (http://www.vbseo.com) has some good tips for SEO, and there are many other sites that offer other useful tips on this subject.

Personaly I would reccommend you to modify your templates so you can digg threads easily, Also add Zoints thread tags and Zoints SEO :) they rock! And on top of that maybe a welcome headers hack to get people/posting registering and a restrict guest hack! I know it sounds like allot but the above combination is working fantasticaly on my board :D

Thanks for all the help guys, but i guess the answer to my questions is no.
I was asking about minor changes that will effect SEO and you guys suggested mods that i've pointed out; i don't particularly like using since vbulletin is always changing.

I don't like the fact that you're always left having to re-install all your hacks and worry about compatibility issues after a big upgrade. If anything, i would only install minor hacks that I can easily keep track of.
I hate modifying code.

s25 please link us to your site:

http://a0tu.com/bbs ?

Either one of those?

P.S
thanks for the VBSEO alternative s25.
VBSEO is overpriced because they know they can get away with it.
I wouldnt install VBSEO anyways because they are a MAJOR hmodification.
