If I was to upgrade from 3.6.2 to 3.6.3 what would I need to do?

What changes do I need to make?

I have edited loads of templates, what files do I need to edit?

What files can I keep?

Can I edit them via PHP files and then once sorted simply upload the lot and upgrade so the forum still works like it was never upgraded?

There are soo many questions I need answers for but I just don't know where to start or what to do, I have never upgraded before I I just feel all my hard work installing mods and changing files will all goto waste and I have to start it again.

Thanks

Easiest way to upgrade is.

Make a backup
Upload ALL of the new php and javascript files (so you dont have to upload the image files)
Run install/upgrade.php
Check to see which templates need to be fixed, and fix them
Upgrade done

What modifications are making you modify files these days?

Read the release announcement. It tells you which templates have been changed and which ones require revert to stock. If you haven't modified any of those then there is not much to do but backup, upload the new version, and run the upgrade script.

There are only 3 templates I don't want to change and they are Header, footer and navbar.

Is changing the templates different from changing the php files?

If so will changing the PHP also change the files so I can just upload it?

Templates are stored in the database, not in PHP files.

If you modify a template at 3.6.2 and then upgrade to 3.6.3, that template is "Frozen in time" at 3.6.2 and will NOT include any of the improvements/fixes that 3.6.3 brings. So it becomes your responsibility to sync up the changes. Some template changes are cosmetic fixes. Some are critical bugs. Look for "Requires Revert" which means that something will be broken if you don't update the template.

If you read the announcement, it should say what Jelsoft changed in the header, footer, and navbar from 3.6.2 -> 3.6.3 and you just need to make the exact same change to your code.

Most modern modifications for vBulletin does not require you to edit any PHP files.

The proper method to upgrade vBulletin is to upload all PHP/JS/XML/etc. files again, replacing the old ones. Basically everything except the /images folder. If you have modified PHP files in the course of installing your modifications, then you will have to make the same or similar modifications to the 3.6.3 files to accomplish the same thing.

So what you are saying is I can upgrade and then compair between the old (3.6.2) and the new (3.6.3) and then make changes that way

I have just upgraded my site on my PC from 3.6.1 to 3.6.3 and the only templates it's made changes to are MEMBERINFO and newthread, well their the only 2 that are showing up as a problem.

Since 3.6.2 doesn't contain the patch yes you need it but it's not a big deal to install it
