This thread is for discussing the release of vBulletin 2.3.11.

Please use this thread to talk about things you like or installation experiences etc., but please do not use this thread to post troubleshooting queries or bug reports. These threads tend to grow very large and bug reports etc. tend to become lost and will not get attention from the support or development teams.

That's because there are a few major versions and different branches of development (only the latest version is developed, though).

2.3.x -- oldest
3.0.x -- second oldest
3.5.x -- fairly new
3.6.x -- newest version

Some people are still using vBulletin 2.3.x because they do not wish to upgrade, can't, or don't see anything that would help them from the 3.x series.

Someone would probably explain it better, but it's just a simple matter of having different major versions that Jelsoft still supports besides their latest version (3.6.x).

2.3.x and 3.0.x aren't actively developed if I'm correct. 3.5.x might not be either but... Since these versions are still used massively, when a security flaw (which was the case for releasing this one!) is found, all the users still using these versions are still vulnerable. So Jelsoft, being an awesome company, wants all it's customers to have a safe & secure product. So they release preventative versions to help the customers still using them.

I can't see 2.3.11 in the members area - is the because my owned licence has expired?

Yes, most likely.

But you can download old versions with security issues?

You can get the patch here even if your owned license is expired:

Previous versions are useful if you have modified your code and need to run file comparisons like Beyond Compare or CVS.
