Hi,
I'd really like to convert my Invision (v2.1.6) Board to vBulletin. I'm tired of the poor support over there and I'm getting so many spammers signing up it's ridiculous. So I'd like to change to vB. My question is how much would it be to convert my Invision board (a little over 8,000 posts/200 members) to a vBulletin board with all the posts and members in tact (I don't want to lose anything)?
Thanks. :)

When you buy vBulletin you get free ImpEx in the members area.
If you do not know the prices heres the prices for vB licenses:
$85 leased $160 owned

Is it easy to do? There's no chance I can mess it up? (thanks for your help btw)

Yes, we have an import script for IPB. You can read about it here:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_ipb2?manualversion=30501500 (IPB 2)
Please note that since IPB passwords are encrypted, they cannot be imported. Your users will need to reset their passwords after the import. You can read more about this here:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_passwords?manualversion=30501500
And here is the online Impex import instructions here:

Yes, it is kind of easy, you have to edit ImpExConfig.php.new and set it to the source of the IPB 2.x.x database (I recently used this to convert a 2.1.7..) and then I think theres a way to set it to what db you want to set it to. Then all you have to do is click about 12 buttons to get it to convert everything. And no prob for the support lol
EDIT: LOL Steve beat me.. he's fast.. xP

As good as vB is, it's still not going to stop the possibility of spam bots joining.

Thanks to both of you. :)
There's no way it's possible for me to mess it up then? As long as I can't break anything or damage my database that's great. This sounds a lot easier than the hassle I went through originally converting my phpbb to an invision board.
So let me get this 100% straight for the price of $160.00 I get to use the board for as long as I wish to (+$30 after the first year for updates). In that cost I also get free e-mail support (just not by phone) and the script I need to convert my board?
If that's true that really isn't bad at all.

If I can say, I am a new member here, and I want to know, if i buy one that is leased, during the whole process of buying, is it just 85 dollars or do i pay more...to lease it

Leased is $85/year.
Owned is $160/lifetime with 1 year of updates included. Each additional year (renewable at any time) is $30.
After 3 years, Owned is cheaper.

so if i leased it, each year, i still keep the site if i do this each year right? hmm..I think i should get one owned, I'm kind of tight with money. thanks

With leased, you must pay $85 per year or delete the software at the expiration of your license.
You can pay $85 now and you have up to 60 days grace period to pay another $85 to upgrade to Owned if you want. Otherwise, some time down the road you will have to pay the full $160 to switch to Owned.

Almost correct, you are not provided with free phone support.

Phone Support is not included in our standard plans and must be purchased seperate.
However most users will find that our Support Ticket is enough and they don't require Phone Support.
With an owned license you are allowed to use the software and receive free support as long as you want. You will only need to renew your license after the first year to get new versions of the software that where released after your owned license update support expired. You can renew your owned license at any time.

Feel free to ask a follow up question, we have no problem trying to explain it differently if that is what helps you understand.
