(I imagined the developers asking for suggestions in a topic, and here's what I would have replied)
I wish there were usergroup permissions for people to post news.
Also there could be categories and subcategories for news. An article would appear on the parent category listing if it was in a subcategory. Being able to choose multiple categories for an article could be good too.
The category listing would show the title of the articles, date, snippet of the text and poster's name optional. The site administrator would choose to list the articles in the category page sorted by date or alphabetically, with "# A B C .." links.
