It´s funny how the refresh button in the register page was deleted, it wasn´t there to start with, in version 3.6.1 it was added and now 3.6.2 removed again.

Is this a security release or a bug-fix release?
Please read the announcement:
Although this is not a security-driven release, it does nonetheless contain resolutions for several important bugs and we would recommend that all customers upgrade to 3.6.2 at their earliest convenience.

Have 3.6.2 got any new functions with 3.6.1 or it's only a bug-fix version?
Upgrading later :D
from Kier's release post:
The vBulletin team is always keen to stay on top of newly discovered problems in the software and when a potential data-loss flaw was discovered in vBulletin 3.6.1 a patch was released within hours.
This release includes that patch, along with fixes for a number of other problems and glitches that have been found along the way.
Although this is not a security-driven release, it does nonetheless contain resolutions for several important bugs and we would recommend that all customers upgrade to 3.6.2 at their earliest convenience
I would take that to mean, no new functions ;)

Hi Warlock. That exact thing has bugged me for years also! That's why I am down to only two styles and will not be going to add anymore. In the past, I had 5-10 and upgrading was so painful!

Hello,
Tks for the new version. In vb-brasil we just notice this - see here (http://www.vb-brasil.org/forums/anuncios-noticias/279-novo-vbulletin-3-6-2-a.html) (portuguese).:cool:
But... when we find the list of bugs fixed and bugs still remain? Example: the trouble of charset in RSS is fixed? :confused:
All the best

It´s funny how the refresh button in the register page was deleted, it wasn´t there to start with, in version 3.6.1 it was added and now 3.6.2 removed again.
The devs tried out something but then listened to customer feedback. I find that nice and responsible in a way, not really funny. :p

Great system i have to say but maybe more background and pre-run tests before release may make sense.
No doubt im in the dog house and post deleted but honestly why so many in so little time?

I agree with your opinion, but many people don't upgrade unless a release is "gold." After that, many more bugs are found early on so they get fixed and new versions are released in relatively rapid succession, from what I've seen. After a few of these "minor" upgrades, the updates will probably come in slower than at the beginning. Hopefully this will apply to 3.6 as well.

I am still deciding whether to upgrade as I have only just completed setting up 3.6.1, but coming here has managed to cause me concern.
Thoughout this thread there are users with postcount=0 and postcount=1 when there are several posts from those users.
I would like reassurance please, that the postcounts on 3.6.2 are actually working properly.
Thanks.

Upgrade killed my site three times I don't know what we did wrong but everything went, and when I tried to down grade I couldn't so I had to delete it and start again, now I am trying to work out what the heck I did wrong before we go live again.

After two posts I show up as 1, so I guess this will give me 2. I want to know if this is just a vB.com specific issue or a 3.6.2 issue before I decide to upgrade. Its kinda concerning.
Edit: okay, I guessed wrong. After a grand total of 3 posts, I have been showing as 1 for the last two. Seriously concerned about the upgrade now :(

Upgraded smoothly yesterday, but still ploughing through template changes now, 14 hours later!
Someone remind me to not completely rewrite half the templates in six styles, I upgraded from 3.6.0 to 3.6.2 and had 413 templates to update. I've quit doing them for a bit now, but I still have 103 to go.
Thankfully my other site was nice and quick with just two templates to update and just minor changes at that :)
Nice work though guys :D

Can someone please explain the updated styles option I have in my AdminCP, I installed 6 styles last night and when I logged on this morning I was told this "There are currently 14 customized template(s) that need to be updated or reverted. Some sections of vBulletin may not function if you do not do this!"
Now I don't wanna start chnaging code since I don't know what I am doing here, Some help would be nice, like where to start? and why I need to change them? How to change them?

I've uploaded all 3.6.2. files correctly and when I tried to run the upgrade script I got this (see attached image).
When I upgraded from 3.6.0. to 3.6.1 there was no problem. Same when I installed the 3.6.1. bug fix.
P.S. I run vbadvanced as well but I've not tampered with any vbulletin files.

I just love the friendly, helpful answers customers can get on this forum. I guess there should be a sticky saying, "If you want support, use Google, if Google doesnt give you the answer then by all means post on the official customers forum where you will be told to use the search feature. If search doesn't give you the answer - tough."

Most templates have been changed, so it would probably be easier to revert all templates and start again creating your style or implementing any template modifications for products that you have installed.
The best way to make the template changes if you wish to do so manually instead of reverting is to use the template comparison feature and make the changes as highlighted there.

Sun 8th Oct '06, 6:53pm
Those of you who want to know what has changed between 3.6.1 and 3.6.2 ... unlike what some have said here, the only change is NOT the removal of the refresh button .. but like almost all other updates, there has ALSO been some bug fixes. The bugs fixed in this case are not security related so as such you don't necessarily need to rush to upgrade .. BUT you'll still have those old bugs if you don't upgrade so it is strongly suggested that you do upgrade eventually!
One question..
I run 3.5.4, so I would have to do template changes for 3.5.5, 3.6.0, 3.6.1, and 3.6.2?
If you do go that route, don't forget you also have to do all the changes in all the Betas and Release Candidates.
As Peterska mentioned, you'll definitely be better off restarting your templates from scratch as virtually all templates usually change between major versions (In your case between 3.5.5 to 3.6.0Beta1).
I usually restart my templates from scratch between major versions like that as it would very likely be longer to actually figure out all the changes than simply to redo them all (and this is coming from someone who can spend over a dozen hours redoing my templates .. as long as that takes, for major versions, it would be several times longer to compare each template as they can change significantly between major versions).
The changes/modifications are usually much less extreme/significant within the same major version (like 3.6.1 to 3.6.2) ... and as such then it would almost always be quicker and more efficiant to simply compare changed templates.

No .. vB is not a free product.
In my opinion it is well worth its price, but you might not see the value if you have no budget and are only planning a very small community and you don't need any significant features.
If you're asking because you simply want to see how it works, then you might want to try their demo here:

There was a change, but it wasn't a change to anything you'd even notice. It removed the ?> at the end of the file. Config.php compatibility will never be broken in patch-level (1.2.x-level) releases.
That's a list for upgraders. Config.php.new is never needed for them.

You are being extremely vague. Without EXACT error messages it's difficult to know what's going on. When you say "could do anything with the header" I believe you are referring to the exact PHP error message:
warning: Cannot add header information - headers already sent in ????????? on line ??.This is easy to fix. This means that you uploaded the files with the wrong mode or have accidentially added a space to the beginning or ending of one of the files such as config.php. If you tell us the exact steps you took, we'll be happy to troubleshoot the problem.
therefore it wasnt my fault as such it was just a crap way of getting people to update their excisting forums, ive had to remove every file on my server re upload and do a fresh install using 3.6.2 just to get it to run ive now got to rebuild and re create my whole forum and i shouldnt have to do all of that just to upgrade some software that they should of got right the first time round.
If you had stated the EXACT error message in a topic in the "Troubleshooting" forum, solutions would have been presented to you.
Modifying the original PHP files is strongly not recommended for vBulletin 3.5 and 3.6 series because of the Plugin/Product system which allows you greatly extend vBulletin without hacking up source files. If you choose to modify the PHP files, you are responsible for synchronizing the changes on subsequent upgrades. Dozens of files are changed with each upgrade. Also for diagnostic purposes, the version number is imprinted in each file so it will warn you that you have out-of-date files if you leave some old versions behind.
it wouldnt let me restore from the back up because it wouldnt let me back into the software cuz it wouldnt install or revert back to the old version
vBulletin control panel depends upon a working database to run. If the database is broken or not there, you can't get into vBulletin control panel. Backup/Restore of MySQL database is done using MySQL database management tools such as phpMyAdmin, MySQLDumper, etc.

If your membership has expired then you will only see the latest version you had access to before your membership expired. I noticed I had the same issue when I last upgraded as it showed 3.6.0 instead of 3.6.1 ... as soon as I renewed it showed up imidiately.
There really wasn't any significant notice alert stating my membership was expired .. but just go where you would renew and it'll tell you when you need(ed) to renew! :)

When you upgrade from vB3.6.1 to 3.6.2, it will NOT replace your templates. Instead, you will get a caution when you login to the AdminCP that several templates are now out-of-date. They are "frozen in time" at 3.6.1 with your changes. You may experience bugs and flaws from trivial to critical depending upon what changes were made. For instance, if you customized a lot of templates at vBulletin 3.0 and upgraded to 3.5, avatars didn't work, inline moderation didn't work, and the Logout link didn't work until you synched up the changes with the templates.
It is up to you to compare the templates and figure out what changes were made from the stock 3.6.1 -> 3.6.2 template and then make those same changes yourself. OR if you documented all your changes, then Revert each template and apply the same modifications to the newer template.

I don't feel comfortable giving instructions on how to find people's copies of vBulletin.
Between Google Code Search and Google Cache, we're having to take steps to protect ourselves from Google! :(

Re: latest version = 3.6.1 instead of 3.6.2
If your membership has expired then you will only see the latest version you had access to before your membership expired. I noticed I had the same issue when I last upgraded as it showed 3.6.0 instead of 3.6.1 ... as soon as I renewed it showed up immediately.
There really wasn't any significant notice alert stating my membership was expired .. but just go where you would renew and it'll tell you when you need(ed) to renew! :)
I got my question answered... Unfortunately, I had to read through 14 pages to get that answer! ...It's always on the last page! :(
Looking forward to upgrading after I renew my licence. I just hope that I can be a part of the majority of people with little to no problems. Yes, I will remember to back up! (Shut your forum down... Back Up, Upgrade) I've upgraded a few times before, to a coupe of different sites, so I have faith that this will be painless. *knocks on wood*
Hey, how come my post count didn't go up? Haha, Kidding! :p
Good luck all.

Jelsoft Can't Release An Upgrade Script For Any New Version Or Update Group (e.g 3.5.X Or 3.6.X) .
If You Release An Upgrade Script ..Better than Now .
Now Customers Must Reupload All Files (Overwrite ) and Excute an Upgrade Program .
This is Just a proposal . :d
Thanks .

The upgrade script is the "program" that you're referring to, I think. :confused:

Yep . it is a "program" . But Any Upgrade Need to reupload All Files . Jelsoft Can Use A Internal Updater For Code changes . I think it .

This would require every folder and subfolder in vBulletin to be set to 0777.

I Know it .
But in each Upgrade All Files Does Not change . If Programming have a strategy to publish an product . They Can Made Easy to Use it at Future . Other Scripts released specified for Forum . Free , Easy Upgrade , No Limit , Most have Support ...! example : MyBB . It is Free , have inflection , ... Important : almost Vbulletin .
But JelSoft Vbulletin is Special & Better . and can be Better now . :)

You also have to keep in mind that many people hack their files, so a script that looks for code and makes changes would not be viable in those cases.
Also, you are correct about not every file being changed with every upgrade. Posts such as this one (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1225322&postcount=2) tell you which files you need to upload. I always upload all files to have the dates change and for the version number change (in the comments), but you don't really have to if you don't want to. :)

Starting with vB 3.5 it is hardly needed to make code changes anymore, and you should try to avoid them whenever possible.

Is there a way to call additional header templates without the modifying the global.php code?
eval('$headinclude = "' . fetch_template('headinclude') . '";');
eval('$header = "' . fetch_template('header') . '";');
// calendar header mod
eval('$header1 = "' . fetch_template('header1') . '";');
eval('$header2 = "' . fetch_template('header2') . '";');
eval('$header3 = "' . fetch_template('header3') . '";');
eval('$header4 = "' . fetch_template('header4') . '";');
// end calendar header mod
eval('$footer = "' . fetch_template('footer') . '";');
Otherwise, I have code changes pretty well cleaned out.

Isn't there a downside to having lots and lots of plug-ins?

There is no upside to hacking up PHP files.

There is no upside to hacking up PHP files.
So the performance cost of having all hacks as plug-ins is better than those as edited files?
I haven't looked into the files deeply enough to know how the plug-in system works, but I'm basing my statements off of this post at vB.org (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showpost.php?p=663102&postcount=1).
I'm not against using plug-ins at all. I have a few of them where I really don't want to edit the files, but some chunks of code are easy to add in, and some might not have hooks. I made an edit log, so I know where things went.

And if you double-click a forum with new (unread) posts in it, you can mark it read. :p
Hey feldon23, is there a definitive answer to my question? I just want to know what's best to do if I'm willing to make little changes to the files here and there. It's not like they take me 10+ hours. :p Thanks.

Definitive answer? No.
I am just trying to figure out what "little changes here and there" that you are doing? Care to share with the class? ;)

Well, for example, I have custom navigation breadcrumb markup so I needed something to generate the proper closing tags. So, in global.php I added a simple loop to the construct_navbits function.
Another little thing I did was include navbits on the error and registration pages. Instead of making a plug-in just so I can eval it, I just added that into the proper place in the files. It doesn't take long at all, so I don't mind doing it for each upgrade.
There are other changes, but many of them are specific to my community and many of them also comment out code to save some queries and processing. I won't list them. :p

Please don't turn this thread into a coding discussion, use vBulletin.org for that.
Keep in mind that the post you are linking to at vb.org was written in the early beta stages of vB 3.5, when we didn't have too much experience with the plugin system, and there where still a lot of hooks missing. Good written Plugins should hardly have more impact on performence as code modifications.

After upgrading from vB 6.1 to 6.2
I'm now getting this error when I add a new RSS Feed from a site which worked before under vB 6.1
This is the error I'm getting when I run the RSS to get threads after adding it.

Ok I upgraded from 3.6.0 to 3.6.2 and things went fine :) Thanks guys! However I dont/didn't get any warning about updating my templates or reverting anything, does this mean I don't need to or should I have got something?
As I see some people got a 'warning' of some kind but I didn't and I'm unsure what to do. in terms of 'is it worth the pain or not'...

If you didn't see a warning about out-of-date templates, then there shouldn't be any changes that have to be made. :)

Upgraded large board (1,9M posts) without any problems from 3.5.4 to 3.6.2
Seems a bit faster this new release, everything is working fine and the members like the new functions.
The step from 3.5 -> 3.6 went alsmost wrong, dus to large tables.

Some people do those large table alterations directly by issuing MySQL commands in an SSH window.

Hey guys,
I am currently running 3.5.4 and have tried to upgrade to the latest 3.6.2 but only to find faliure!
After following the directions 4 times I couldnt even get the install/update.php page to load, it would give me php errors.
Is there an easier way for me to do this upgrade? such as upgade to 3.6 first and then 3.6.2?
What about the customizations I have made? I dont want to reinstall all of those....
Thanks in advance! Any advice woudl be appreciated.
