Hi,

I'm sure this must have been asked many times but I can't find a reference to it in this forum. I've just purchased vB 3.6.1. and want to run in on my very old Linux Server (RedHat 8) which I've recently upgraded to mysql 5.0. but unfortunately php version is still 4.2.2.

For the last 4 hours I've been trying to upgrade that. Can't go any higher until Apache version is more up to date, can't do that because some libraries are not up to date, can't do that because etc. etc. etc.

From the reports I've read on the net there isn't actuall a great difference between php 4.2.2 and 4.3.3. Obviously these reports may be wrong though. It appears I have a few choices:

1) Continue with my upgrade path
2) Try to switch this php version check off
3) Use an older version of vB

Does anyone have any experience with trying (2) and if I have to for an older version of vB which one can I use?

Thanks for your help.

You should find a way to upgrade. PHP 4.2.2 was possibly the buggiest version of PHP ever released and you will have problems with it no matter which version of vB you run.
