Currently i run a 3.0.7 forum with a lot of mods like an arcade, photopose integration, and a purchased skin. I would like to upgrade to 3.6

Do i need to take my forums back to "stock" and apply the upgrade? If i ran the upgrade would it revert all the stuff that i changed and then upgrade? Could i install 3.6 in a new dir. and thn import all my users/posts.

I understand i will have to re apply all the mods and i am fine with that i would just like to get my new version running without losing posts.

Idealy i would like to install 3.6 into a new dir and get it all set up, import users and posts, make sure it works and then one night delete the 3.0.7 board. Is this possible?

Thanks
J

Yes, you will need to go back to the original vB files and templates to upgrade from 3.0.7 to 3.6.1. Then you can see if new plugins are available for this version and reapply your other customizations.

vB 3.6 uses a plugin system which allows to to install add-ons without having to modify the vB files. You will need to look over at www.vbulletin.org (http://www.vbulletin.org) to see if there are updated plugins available for your hacks.

When you upload the 3.6.1 files, your hacks to the 3.00.7 files will be overwritten. To remove these from ther database, you will need to contact the authors of each one of the hacks for instructions.

Would it be easier to start over with a fresh install of 3.6 and then import the posts and usersout of the old database?

No, I don't think that would be easier at all.

thank you for all the quick replies Steve, could you explain a little more why my idea wouldn't be easier.

is there a problem importing the information from 1 db to another?

It wouldn't be easier because it's harder to do that than to simply upgrade and it has more possibilities of problems.
