View Full Version : Quick question about upgrading with mods/hacks installed.

We're running 3.5.4 and over the past months we've installed a number of modifications, and manually edited the templates to make things look a little different. You can see the forum here: www.scale4x4rc.org

My question is, to upgrade to 3.6.1, will I be able to backup the templates, then import them into 3.6.1? As far as mods and things like that, most of it we can either do without, or reinstall them or something else later.

I guess what I'm asking is what all will we loose moving from 3.5.4 to 3.6.1, and what extra steps will have to be taken prior to the upgrade?

Thanks in advance!
Keith

You'll need to re-apply any changes you've made to the old templates to the new ones. It doesn't appear you've made too many, so that shouldn't take long :)

Nice subject matter btw :)

1)you will loose any modifications that are done in the original sourcefiles
2)template edits depend on wheter the template needs to be reverted to include the new functionalty

when your upgrade is done vbulletin will tell you "x templates need to be reverted" when you login to the admincp

and restoring out of date backups is not a good idea

Ok, so pretty much, I can just follow normal upgrade procedure, and then some mods and templates may not function, but it won't be a major screw up, just have to change the affected templates to suit... I can live with that.

Thanks for the help!

Just wanted to say that everything went smooth, no problems except with attached pics. I've posted about that here though...

I had the same question. We've got a few mods, so all I will need to do after upgrading (we have 3.6.0 and will go to 3.6.1) is revert the templates the system suggests?
