because they send emails like this (after i sent a newsletter with people's username and password in it)

Chris -

I would like to know how and why you are displaying my details for my Username? How many people have this now. I am unsubscribing to your website due to this. Why would I want everyone or even one person to have my personal password. How can this happen. I need an explaination or will I report it to AOL.

Do what I do Chris, save the idiotic emails on your HD for amusement at office parties ;)

Oh, and while it's moan at Chris day, my sister wants, nay - demands! a forum jump drop box on your site.

Apparently jumping from the Stargate forums to the Buffy forums is far to strenuous.

:D

lol,

i doubt she would appreciate the extra 10kb that drop down box creates on each and every page with 800 forums :)

pass on that a section drop down box is coming soon though!

Chris,

Just remember that everyone's a newbie at some time. My advice is to calmly and rationally explain how this works. Eveytime I've done this the people respond positively because they are learning something new and they're not being treated like idiots.

AS far as a Forum Jumpbox on your site. It would go a long way to improving navigation.

Don't use the dynamic one. Copy what is in the forumjump template and use that as a basis for creating a hardcoded box you can add to your footer template.

Simply provide jump points to your major sections and not every forum.

Anyone catch the 12 Step Program for AOL Users in the April Issue of Yahoo! Internet Life? It was halarious! :D

But, I guess you got to give 'em a break. :p

yup we all started somewhere. What made me laugh about this one was how he started threatening me because i had, what he though, released his password to everyone. Newbies are fine, we are all newbies but when they start threatening people gets a bit much.

I always enjoy seeing people threatening to report me to AOL. I swore at one kid once, and he said if i did it again he would report me to AOL and i would get my account banned. Of course, he didn't realize i don't use AOL. But i'm sure you can imagine my reply :)

The thing that annoys me about AOL is people who think it's the be-all, end-all Internet. Some people think AOL is the Internet, the major authority for all users. "I'm going to report you to AOL" is the classic example of this. Sheesh!

If an AOL user has trouble getting into my java chat room, I tell them to open IE and try it. They usually reply "I have AOL". I say "okay, connect to AOL, minimize it, and open IE". They just don't seem to understand that there are other ways to access the internet than just AOL.

AOL is evil, especially for webmasters. My site renders like crap through their browser; the graphics all look like crap when they are "compressed", and heven forbid an AOL user cause trouble on the forum, banning their IP bans half the site.

I contemplated disallowing AOL accounts to sign up - but the next 15 people to register were AOL users. It just wouldn't make sense...

Interesting thread. I rarely have any problems with my AOL members.

Maybe my AOLers are just smarter, stronger and better-looking than everyone else's! :D :D

AOL... No matter how much we make fun of it people still come up with ways to make it laughable! =)

Sometimes the biggest idiots are people we know. Last year yahoo was on the news for being a victim of dos attacks. Watching tv a couple of days later, my gf's mom noticed her tv reception was bad. So she said "are those hackers attacking our tv?"

And then there was this dipstick of a friend who thought to get on the internet all you needed was Netscape. No phone lines, no modems, nothing. A PC is all you need along with Netscrap. Or so he thought.

Go figure.
