Take a look at www.apple.com - the new Shuffle looks great, a perfect thing for sport activities. :)
But it sucks IMHO that the blue iPod Nano is only available as 4GB version. :(

Damn.. there's a whole new 5th generation iPods. Do you think that it is possible to update the older 5th generations iPods so that it will have the same new features (such as search, thanks god(..)) ?

The shuffle still looks like crap.
Lack of LCD on an MP3 player = worthless.
I'll stick to my 4 GB Nano and 60 GB iPod Video.

Since the newer iPod is still a 5G, I would imagine this is possible with a firmware update. Will Apple release one? That's yet to be seen.
The 2G nano confuses me. Isn't it basically the iPod mini with a color display and a different name?

Anyone else notice that iTunes7 isn't grouping albums together correctly in the alternative view (the second one out of three).

It's probably a glitch that will be fixed with 7.0.1, which I imagine will be released soon.

They could at least put a tiny monochrome two-line screen on the Shuffle...I'm with Vile that a lack of screen totally ruins it for me, despite how incredibly good it could be for working out.
On a side note, is the iTunes not-just-music-anymore Store dead for anybody else? Connection refused.

It's probably because so many people are on it right now. Just a guess.

I managed to work out what the problem is. It occurs when you have a compilation album (Various Arists), whereby the album is the same but the artist on each track on the album varies. You'd think the developers would have spotted this one when developing the new grouping features.

You'd think. Try submitting feedback and hope it gets fixed in the next minor update.

Probably buy the first iPod in the family for Yule this year. Thinking of getting one for my daughter, probably the hot pink one. Still have to compare it with other MP3 players on the market and see what gives the best value for the dollar.

If you want a hard drive player, then the 80 GB iPod is probably the best value. 80 GB for $349 breaks down to $4.36/GB. The 8 GB Sansa and/or nano sells for $249, and breaks down to $31.13/GB.

Hmm...I'm still tossing between an iPod and a Flash MP3 player. If I go with the latter I know I'll pay more per storage space but it'll handle the bump-n-grind which a hard drive player could not.

An iPod Nano or Shuffle is a flash MP3 player, and actually cost-efficient as flash-based players go.

I'm sure this is possible. my impression about Apple tells that they wouldn't bother themselves to do so since they want you to buy the new one

Just got back from the Apple store and bought myself a brand-new 4GB blue nano. :)
I'm really liking the feel of this. I've got my old 2GB black nano side-by-side with this new one, and the screen is significantly brighter. Also, the new nano has a nice aluminum-ish style to it, which is far less likely to scratch or to show fingerprints than the 1G nanos.
Also, the gapless playback in the new firmware works great. The search feature looks good, too. :)

I like the new iTunes; especially when you can flip through and see the albums to songs and stuff. Not to mention you can download album covers now. :D
It's all new and shiney... I'll probably get something soon; don't know which yet.

That doesn't work for me.. I told iTunes to download the covers for my playlist but it didn't for most songs. :(
The flip-through-albums feature is nice but worthless without proper covers...

It took me a while to grab all the covers. I had to right click on a track in an album with missing art and select the 'Get Album Artwork' 3 or 4 times before it downloaded.
I still have some missing for albums not available in the iTunes store :(

Never had a problem (except in a couple of instances where it downloaded the wrong album cover for something, but eh... it's alright).

I believe, if iTunes doesn't have it, there's a request submitted automatically but iTunes to apple alerting them to the 'missing' album art.

If I need size, I'd buy the black video ipod .. not the black nano.
250 for the nano is over my budget, but I would really want it.
I am afraid it will be the silver 150 ipod nano.

That's a nice feature if it's true. I have several albums that lack album artwork. Of course, maybe I have the albums tagged improperly.

Yesterday the 2nd generation Nano was released and I bought the 2GB silver. That's more than enough space for me since I'm only planning to keep under 20 songs at a time. I also bought headphones to go with it and that actually was more expensive than the iPod. Figures... :)

There are headphones and there are (audiophile) headphones. I'm particularly picky when it comes to sound quality. With 15+ years of being involved in high-end car and home stereo systems I'm a bit spoiled. :)

Anyone who sticks with the stock iPod headphones is missing out big time. Invest in a decent pair and actually listen to your music with some decent definition and clarity.
Even if the new iPods come with different headphones they will never be as good as ones that you buy separatly (unless they bump up the price of the iPod).

The rule of thumb is that headphones produce (isolates) better sound, with less chance of hearing loss, than with earphones. The Shure E3c series is a good choice for earphones. For headphones I recommend the Grado RS 1 or 2 series. Both are ridiculously expensive but do they ever sound awesome.

Would you want the old earbuds or the new ones? Also, I've heard that Apple used to give out free earbuds (of the old model) if you sent them your broken ones. Not sure if that's true, though.

To keep good relations with their customers. You may or may not be able to receive the earbuds from Apple but it won't hurt to try. :)

Agreed...I'm using a set of the Shure E4c Earphones (http://www.shurestore.com/earphones/eseries_e4c.html) and they are excellent, far better than the stock earphones that come with the iPod.
