Hi guys,

If your forum was going to be sold what steps would you take to access its price ? Also whats put there in terms of getting advice. Like is there a forum anywhere that I could ask people in the know ?

Thanks

Get as much as you think someone will pay for it.

To actually value it, you must consider the profit and potential future profit that the site can make either for you or for someone who may purchase it.

There are no formulae to determine the value.

Thanks Chris.

The thing is we have been over X amount, its quite a large figure but perhaps not as much as we feel its worth, considering its 9 years of hardwork. The thing is we have not made money from it, its been pure love. :) So its hard to know what to do.

Obviously in terms of potential - again we have never even looked into it.

Its a little confuseing and also a little heart pulling. I have spent nine years building it up but the owner wants to sell which objectively I can appreciate.

But obviously we would hate to find out its worth a great deal more.

A sale will only happen if a buyer thinks it is worth more than you offer to sell it to them for, otherwise why would they buy it; so you have to expect them to be able to make more money from it.

But I understand where you are coming from. I recently sold a forum that I spent a lot of time on, I sold because I didn't have the time to spend on it anymore and while the money was nice it was very small for the time I had invested; but then it was a hobby. It sounds like your situation is the same - and at the end of the day, if you are not making money from the site it is unlikely to be worth a huge amount.

Good luck with your decision, and remember you can always negotiate :)

The offer same out of of the blue and would be enough for me to travel around the world. Well half way :) We could make money, just chose not too really. Was too focused on the community. Its linked too from several places, like bbc.co.uk and has a very active community.

So we didnt even have an amount in mind. We were told what they would pay.

*sigh* Its not easy.

Here ya go.
http://directory.sootle.com/website-worth/tata.php
$3.00
Good luck.
Between adsense and banners a site like yours should draw some decent revenue.

Edit: $35,178.00 when I used the www.

Thanks. Is that a good indication and not just a way for that site to syndicate content ?

:)I have no idea what the site is all about.
I just happened to see a post about that site and thought I'd pass it on for what it's worth (no pun intended).

if your site is linked to from the BBC, you must get loads of traffic directed your way, thats for sure.

I'm guessing my forum isn't worth 40 grand, but if so, then I'll take it.

That site is not really reliable. We have one site we know is worth a great deal of money and totally under valued on http://directory.sootle.com/website-worth/tata.php

But I guess it all depends on the criteria and who the sale is aimed at.

Don't know how accurate that would be... It gave me a value of over €3000
It seems to work purly on inbound links.
