Apache 1 vs 2

I keep reading Apache 1 serves PHP scripts faster than Apache 2.

Is this true?

Any reasons I shouldn't switch to Apache 1?

Not sure about that one, I do know Apache 2.2 is faster for such tasks than 1.3.xx or 2.0.xx though

Apache 1.3 is still maintained by the apache developers and gets security patches:
