Hi, Just tried to install a newly-purchased version of vBulletin 3.6.0 for a customer but am getting the message that it requires PHP 4.3.3 or greater. Unfortunately, my host is running PHP 4.1.2 with MySQL 3.32.49. I emailed them about this but they have no plans to upgrade either PHP or MySQL. So the question is: can I swap my vBulletin 3.6.0 for an earlier version which will run on PHP 4.1.2 and MySQL 3.23.49?

If not, I have got another licensed copy of vBulletin 3.0.9 I installed a while back for another customer which appears to only require PHP 4.0.6. Can I copy this, change the embedded customer numbers accordingly and install it for my latest customer?

Regards,
Bob Osola

Both those versions are extremely old. I'd talk to your host again and ask him to reconsider, or look for a more flexible host.

Thanks for replying, but that's of no help, I'm afraid. My customer does not want to change hosts, and the host will not upgrade at the moment.

You didn't answer my questions about either (a) obtaining an older version of vBulletin which will run on the given PHP/MySQL versions or (b) or using a copy of an older existing version licensed to another customer and changing the embedded customer number to the new number. Can I do either of these?

Failing that, could I just hack the PHP version check code in vb 3.6.0 ? I'm wondering if vb 3.6.0 really requires PHP 4.3.3 or is it just a recommendation?

If all the above are non-starters, who would I contact about a refund, please?

Regds,
Bob Osola.

You should use the licenses files, but there might be a way to give you access to older files. That's something Steve will have to decide though.

Please open a support ticket describing the issue or linking to this thread and ask for it to be assigned to Steve.

Actually, I just checked the members area of another member affected by this. It seems you should still be able to choose vBulletin 3.5.5 from the dropdown list on the download page.

Worked like charm. I'm now up and running with 3.5.5. Thanks for the very speedy help.
