Please consider seperating the 'webmaster' address variable form the variable used as the 'from' address and reply-to address in Notification emails. Of course I want someone to get prompt attention if they use the 'contact us' link at the bottom of every page.. but not have to be swamped with 'automation' messages which get generated from the background notification engines.

Yes, I currently set my webmasters e-mail address to something which doesn't exist (donnotreply@...) so that people don't reply to all the notifications and don't end up getting a real mail address on a load of spammers lists due to less than careful users accidently spreading thee-mail through the address books ;)

The downside of this is that the contact-us and the mail notifications refer to this address.

Two seperate addresses would as the OP said be a good idea.

I have to vote for this one, too.

So many (20 per day) of my forum members mistakenly respond to threads by email. (They get the last post in an email.)

Outside of vB, I would set up that second email account to auto-reply that they mistakenly responded by email and that they really should click the link to go to the thread instead...

In the meantime, I guess I'll continue reading everybody's mistaken responses to PMs as well. :(

I just sign up for a gmail address and submitted that one as the webmasters email. I dont get spam on my main one that way.

No, for me it isn't about spam, it is about treating "contact us" and advisories of new posts/PMs differently. With one, I want to be able to respond to concerns, and with the other, I wish to provide an auto-reply to further explain how things work and respect people's privacy with their PMs.
