Make a backup of your files and database and then upgrade. Or make a test upgrade on a seperate account first as a test.

I've done a fresh install and a 3.5.4 > 3.6.0 gold upgrade and everything went just fine. Good luck!

Kier - You have a typo in the 3.6 gold announcement, post two has: These are the template changes since 3.5.0 RC3 ONLY

Should be 3.6.0 ?

Well done on a good job! Look forward to installing 3.6 :D

I've only installed add-ons thru the plug-in/product system, will this be a problem with templates? Will the upgrade overwrite the templates?

And do templates turn red (in the edit template window) if the template has been modified by a plug-in/product?

Oh - and I customized the navbar template myself, will this be a problem?

Where is the "What's New" list so those of us that have not followed the 3.6 dev can learn what's new since 3.5.4?

Floris
Thu 3rd Aug '06, 3:04pm
I believe they've linked to it in the announcement.

Many visitors to this forum will have been keeping tabs on the 3.6 beta and release-candidate versions that have been available for the past several weeks and will be familiar with what is new and improved in vBulletin 3.6. For those who have not seen what you can expect, there is a thread available here (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/../go/36features) for your benefit.

Thanks Kier for This Incredible jump
Indeed I had a question which is:
About the hack of the flashes, Movies and etc … in the 3.5.4 it was easy to get hacked from hackers and I was afraid of using it because of that reason.
How will it behave in 3.6.0?

ok, so the best I can google or dig up here are updates and features from RC1, 2, 3, etc. Is there a full list of updated/new features available in 3.6 Gold somewhere?

I would try to assemble one from various locations, but surely someone else is more informed than I am on what's new and can just post the lowdown for everyone.

The real thing is to remove all accesskey="p" instances, not accesskey="s" ;)

A newly discovered IE security issue that isn't specific to vBulletin - by the looks of it.

Try looking for it on your server end, if it shows it as uploaded. Delete it and re-upload that same file. I had the same problem even though the file was uploaded to the server. It must have got corrupted during the upload. I deleted it and re-uploaded the same file and all was fine then.

Well, if you mean 'custom' as: you have added your own template, this will not be affected at all. Infact, it doesn't even get touched by the system. ;)

If you have modified one of the default templates you get the chance to compare both templates so that you can make the changes you've made to the 'old' template to the new template so that your plugin/hack/whatever still works.
This one is a bit more work but vBulletin made it easy with the template comparison feature. :)

This is IE's great, "I'll ignore what you sent as a content type and try to work it out myself" feature.

So if you send application/pdf, IE wont trust you and check the first 256 bytes to see if it can do better, end result is an XSS. A very similar if not identical issue to the GIF appearing as HTML issue that was posted last October with IE.

I think that is a great idea. When a member uploads a file it automatically gets put into a zip file, if it is already in a zip file then nothing happens. This would not only compress and save space, but also fix the exploits that may occur.

Yeah but who wants to have to keep downloading zips and unzipping for a single image etc, its not very user friendly.

Also imagine the server resources required for zipping, its a fairly intensive server process depending on what algorithm used and compression level.

Hi, is it OK now? thanks :D
Yes, it's okay now.

We have worked around the issue by forcing all non-image attachments to open the 'Download File' dialog rather than attempting to display in the browser, as Internet Explorer is simply too unpredictable in its treatment of rogue file types to allow this any longer.

Therefore, PDF attachments will now give you a 'Save / Open' dialog box rather than being displayed in the browser.

impex targets are 3.0, 3.5 and 3.6
sources for vb right now are 2.x, 3.0.x and 3.5.x, not yet 3.6.
