Transfering License Question

Hello,

I am going to be transfering my domain to another person and I would also like to transfer my forum to them. However, it states that you cannot transfer a license from site-to-site until the site you are transfering from is closed down. I do not want to close it down. I would like to keep the old site up as well as a new site.

The new owner of the old site will be buying a vBulletin license. Is there a way he can register the old forums for his license without losing all of the data?

So basically, what I am asking is, can I use the license I already paid for that is currently registered to a site, install a new vBulletin forum on another site using that license, and keep the old forum open with a new license (the new owner)?

If I understand you correctly.... this is what needs to happen.

a) Have the other person buy thier own vbulletin liscence for site-one.com.

b) Have the other person upload these files onto thier server

c) Provide a db backup for the other person to restore on thier server.

This should keep the site up and going and free your liscence up for use on your new project.

I've heard the db backups and restoring can be quite painful... especially since I have certain mods and things installed. Is there a good method to backing up and restoring that I should use?

Whoever told you this was not really telling the truth. Backing up and restoring your database is the same regardless of any modifications you may make.

Thanks Zachery! Just a quick question, I assume this works not only transfering to different servers, but to the exact same server it'll work, right? (Just making sure)

That is correct.

If your not planning on physically moving the db, then you may not have to do anything - the new user would just access the existing db. (make a backup anyway!!!).

I guess that depends on whether your on shared hosting and whether the db usage would hit your hosting plan.

i am in the exact same situation.

a friend of mine will be taking over my site and server
i have lots and lots of mods installed and a database of 100k users +-
is there any way i can change my license to my friends license without replacing the vb software?
is there a license file i can replace by his license file?
im currently really against installing all those mods etc cuz im in a time limit
and besides that other than the license everything would stay exactly thesame as it is now
so using the old files would be haven for me
any way this would be possible?
