Hello,
I recently got my free forum hacked so I am wondering around the internet looking for some good forum (free and paid) scripts. vBulletin in one that has my attention. Therefore I have some questions before I once make a final decision.
I am interested in buying the "Owned License"
1. What happens if I have an "owned license" and my domain expires next year and I want to buy a new domain and use the same script this new domain? Is it possible? I've read the terms but not quite sure about te answer.
2. How hack proof is vBulletin?
I'll come back if I have more questions :)

1. You can, though you'll have to change your license information in the members' area when you do. (Don't worry, it's easy to do :p)
2. Nothing is 100% safe, but vBulletin is among the most secure forum software on the net, and it's almost certainly safer than whichever software your free host provided you.

You can run vBulletin on one server at a time. Simply remove all trace of it from the first server, install it on the second server, and update your Customer Information here at vBulletin.com to indicate where you're running the software.
You are also allowed to have a private (hidden) Test installation of vB. So you can install it on the new server and get it up and running (password protected of course) and once you migrate over, delete the old install of vB and update your Customer Info here.
2. Generally, Jelsoft releases a security patch within hours of discovery of a security flaw. Unlike phpBB, installing this security patch takes less than 30 seconds and immediately protects your forum. I wouldn't be surprised if a future version of vBulletin added automatic security patches. You can, of course, password protect your Admin directory so you have 2 layers of protection there.
I am not saying that vBulletin never gets hacked, but every time I've heard of the waves of phpBB hacks happening to people, I haven't heard a lot of people saying "it happens to vB too".

Thanks for the info. As far as I have read I couldn't find this info in the terms.
If I understand it correct it is simple to change domain(s) and use te same licensed script just by changing the Customer Information. That would be great. I'm not very much in the mood to pay a new license when changing domain name :)
As for that hacking part..I hope that vBulletin is more hacking proof in general compared to those free forums.

Don't worry about it too much. Its a great software. As long as you upgrade constantly, not like every 2 years....every once a year is fine. But hey, that's just me. :)

Thanks!! I already bought the script and see I can change the details. I now know why this forum is better than those free ones!! :)
