In talking with the HOST StartLogic, their ProLogic plan allows one to send up to 200emails/hr (and 2000emails/day) but I would have to Manually limit our emails myself as anything over 200/hr sent is just rejected & trashed.

As such if we had 500 members in our forum, does Vbulletin provide any easy way for me to select say 150 members at-a-time to mass-email a notice out to? Then repeat that process over a few hours. Just curious if this simple as falling off a log, or as involved as manually selecting selecting our members one at a time somehow?

Thanxx!

Yes, you could just a batch email, however vBulletin does generate / send quiet a few emails (registrations, notifications)

I'd be weary of a host who limited you so much. 10-20 very active users could consume 200 emails an hour easily.

Hello there, unfortunately I am at work and cannot access my vb site (smart filter blocks it due to the topic)

Anyhow, what you can try is the admin demo on here. I know you can limit the number of e mails to send at one time, however, not sure if there is a way to limit the time when the e mails are sent.

I wonder if you could do this by setting up an additional cron job.

**edit** zachery beat me to it...

I would have to agree, not sure you want to be limited like that. I can recommend a great host if you want...very reasonable and uses VPS. Check out Westhost (http://www.westhost.com) if you want :) I have been with them for years, servers are very reliable, 25hr phone support.

I just chatted with them and 'Zack' there they told me:
"You could contract with our custom services to install it (i.e. Vbulletin) for you, but WestHost charges for that. We don't support Vbulletin from a technical support standpoint."

Being a newbie at all this, I'll need some help in getting Vbulletin installed & running. At least I know I need to look for a host that supports Vbulletin AND doesn't impose email restrictions now.

Thanxx!

Sorry, I should have also posted that 'Zack' (at WestHost) also went on to say:

"Typically hosts will only support products they can offer with their packages. I'm not aware of any hosts that would offer technical support for Vbulletin, more than likely you will be on your own unless you pay a fee to get the forum installed"

Well you get support from us on installing upgrading etc. We won't do it for you but we will do our best to get pointed in the right direction. Most hosts will not provide support for anything that they did not provide.. and even then.

All your webhost is giving you is storage and bandwidth.

I've never heard of a host limiting e-mails, that may be to deter spam, but that is just completly outrageous. vBulletin is actually quite easy to install if you can follow their instructions word for word, and they and the community have always been there for me when an issue rises:)

Yes that is correct, they will not directly support it, however, as mentioned you can get it installed without any issues.

Heck, if you would like, I would be happy to install it for you...it is a piece of cake!
