I am looking at their UBB.Threads 7.0 Beta forums and they look rather modern:

Does anyone think that Jelsoft will have competition again?

Probably not.

It's like saying vBulletin is Microsoft, and that one you mentioned above is Apple.

I don't think so. It looks hideous first of all (IMO) and the feature set isn't too impressive from what I see of it.

It appears to be a portal, but I would think that with a little tweaking (e.g. remove the sidebars, put who is online, birthdays and statistics at the bottom of forumhome, etcetera), it would not make a bad stand alone forum.

I took a look at their posting interface and it seems to be updated from what I recall seeing on older UBB forums. I noticed some similarities with vBulletin:

http://images.vbulletin.com/images_vb3/editor/createlink.gif

http://www.ubbcentral.com/version7/images/markup_panel/default/list.gif

http://www.ubbcentral.com/version7/images/markup_panel/default/bold.gif

http://www.ubbcentral.com/version7/images/markup_panel/default/italic.gif
http://images.vbulletin.com/images_vb3/editor/italic.gif

http://www.ubbcentral.com/version7/images/markup_panel/default/underline.gif
http://images.vbulletin.com/images_vb3/editor/underline.gif

The images appear to be vBulletin inspired, just like their navbar and footer templates. I am curious, did they get permission to use slightly edited versions of Jelsoft's images or did they just ask for a lawsuit?

Aren't vB's and their images both from Microsoft Word anyway? I didn't think vB's were original.

If I was a ubb.threads user I would be excited... as a vbulletin user, I feel its still 3 steps behind and a half dollar short. The only thing I found interesting is the sidebar boxes by default but thats not a difficult item to add.

edit: *gasp* did you see thier pricing? Why in the world would people pay that when it has half the features of vbulletin?

Too cluttered for my taste. It feels like a mix of a portal with a forum.

I did not know that. I had always thought that they were unique, but come to think of it, they do look like they are from Microsoft Word.

Their pricing is probably going to keep UBB out of the mainstream for the foreseeable future. I wonder if they will consider changing it to change that; although I have to say, their pricing structure must really cut down on piracy as it is probably too expensive for the pirates to afford.

They might. Competition is good for the consumers...
now it just seems ugly and old :D

looks like an over hacked vB with nasty colors and quite a bit higher prices.

This isn't really the appropriate place.
