Looking at several hosts and one offers

Intel Pentium IV 3.0 HTT
2048 MB DDR RAM
250 GB SATA Hard Drive

and the other offers

AMD 64 3200 Processor
1024 MB RAM
120gb SATA Hard Drive – offers better performance than IDE


Which one is better?

and why? and by how much?

I will always go with the one with 2GB ram. It makes a lot of difference.

Those servers are not equal iin a general sense.

Processor wise, the AMD has the advantage of a 64bit core and more than likely more onchip cache.
Ram Wise the P4 machine is the better bet.
Both are SATA so more storage is slightly better.

I'd personally try to get the AMD64 machine with another gig of ram if possible, over the P4 machine. If you cannot go with the P4 with more ram.

The more ram the better.
