Any ideas how to turn this off in Win XP, I can only find in google how to turn it off in Vista.

Bit more help chris, whats searchindex.exe, im guessing somehting for WinFX?

A little more information and i might be able to help you.

I wastn't sure what it was either apart from it taking up 130MB ram and slowing my computer to an absolute crawl whenever it tried to do anything (despite having 2GB ram). Anyway, I worked it out - it's something installed by office 2007 beta. I disabled it from the control panel -> admin tools -> services.
