The software has been successfully installed on several different flavours of UNIX, as well as Windows™ 98/NT/2000/XP, and the Mac.

I think that instead of the infraction warn system we should use the warn system made by Zero tolerence, sinces its much nicer and defenitly better than silly yellow and red cards....in my opinion anyways.
though this version is a lot better than 3.5.4, i like the new feature apart from that infraction one.

I don't know if I should upgrade my 3.5.4 board to 3.6RC1 or wait until Gold.
Personal preference/risk tolerance I suppose.
I have kept my two existing sites at 3.5.4 and not even played with the beta versions there. I'll wait until 3.6.0 (gold) at the earliest and for most of my existing hacks to be updated.
I started a new site in late June. Beta 3 version was already out and I made the decision to start with that, not wanting to deal with an upgrade shortly after setting it up. It's now on RC1 and working quite well though I've kept hacks to a relative few.

I upgraded straight from 3.5.4. I think the hardest part was the template edits.
I was going to simulate my site by copying the database to my test board and upgrading to RC 1 but copying the sql commands by hand I gave up.
I just said f--k it and uploaded the RC files over my 3.5.4 files and ran the upgrade. I ofcourse backed everything up.

Good to know - I have advgallery which doesn't work so can't update my live board, very frustrating. Is vBPicGallery any good? I assume I will find that on org. Gonna ditch gallery, not so fond of the support anymore, so looking for an alternative. are there any rules about posting podcasts with url's? (which was one of the new features in 3.6 RC2) but when I try to submit a post with url it just goes to a white screen and never posts the actual message.
Ive tried both IE7 and Opera to make sure it wasnt a specific browser problem and I tried submitting a regular post w/o the url podcast part filled in everything went through fine. So either there is something special you have to enable somewhere or there is a bug somewhere.

I just wanted to ask a question about RC2,I notice when reading the official announcment topic it has a list of a few templates and tells you if they need to be reverted or not, ect.I was just wondering are these the only templates that are significantly changed to require a revert or are there more that are not listed?I just wanted to know this because i am planning to upgrade from 3.5.4 when gold hits the net but currently i am building a custom skin in 3.5 so i'd rather know this and not do a ton of work on the skin for 3.5 if i have to almost completely rebuild it to work with 3.6 thanks for your time.

Is the question are the templates listed in today's announcement

newthread
Added input fields for podcasts.
Requires Revert? Only if you use podcasting AND need to be able to specify an external url.
pm_newpm
Updated BCC JavaScript to the link href doesn't get executed.
Requires revert? No.
postbit_legacy
Added borders to parts of the table for a more consistent look.
Requires revert? No.
memberlist_search
Forced the instant messaging fields to be displayed left-to-right.
Require revert? No.
the only ones changed since 3.5.4 or since 3.6 RC1?
I think Colin answered the latter question below, not the former.
Those are the only templates that are changed.

Thanks for the fast replies guys,
Yes the question was mainly pertaining to template changes from 3.5.4 to 3.6 i know there are a few in the RC1 thread and now there are some in RC2 i just wanted to be sure there were not like 30 templates not listed that all needed to be reverted before continuing work on my skin as im sure you can imagine would be a pain after you spent weeks working on it.
Colin F
Mon 17th Jul '06, 1:57pm
Yes, those are since 3.6 RC1 of course.
You'd have to go through all the announcements (including Betas) since the version you're upgrading from for all the template changes.

I've got to say that your improvement to the postbit_legacy template is great. Ever since vBulletin 3 came out I've been changing cellspacing=0 to cellspacing=1, but this new look you've put in is even better with the date not having a vertical line, making it easy to distinguish one post from the next. Also it appears that the background of the date field is now using the table header background color, which looks nice. I am now leaving that template with the default setting.

:( was hoping that I could make use of my time off work and be installing gold NOW, but as usual it'll appear when I'm back at work and I've no time to install it. Pesky vbgallery people won't even release anything to make the gallery work with RC2 they sound like an old record "we'll support it when it goes gold" so it'll go gold and then gotta faff around with gallery. none of this would be a problem if vB had an intergrated gallery and cms its just having to rely on third parties. Bugs seem to be increasing instead of decreasing too :(
<wanders off to find some patience> ;)
alluidh
Sun 23rd Jul '06, 10:47am
Sorry, your wrong. Third parties are more faster because most of them only work on one part like a gallery or something else. If Jelsoft would release the vBulletin, a galerie, a cms and much more, you think all will be faster?
Until now there are 12 unconfirmed und 3 confirmed bugs for 3.6 - So, if I were a Hack-writer, I would wait to gold, before I release a hack and the hack doesn't work in RC3, because there were a change at the point of my hack ...
Fusion
Sun 23rd Jul '06, 10:59am
I'm happy the bug-count seem to increase. That means people put in time to find those last few bugs so that when it finally reaches Gold, it will be as stable as a Gold release should be. With a stable Gold, we'll see a final all the sooner.

I'm not wrong at all. If vB had gallery and cms integrated I wouldn't care if it was RC2 for 20 weeks.. then RC3 for 20 weeks because MY actual upgrade (when it finally went gold) would take just minutes....... but everything would work, my board would be offline just minutes.
By me having to rely on third party hacks, I have to wait for the hackers (in this case vbgallery, links and advanced) to release newer versions.. then I can upgrade my live board and then each hack/product in turn.. that takes ages and is frustrating when SOME of the products receive little support for whatever reason.
I love the new vB features but can't risk installing it on a live board, because other products in their current form would break the site. <--- that's my gripe lol. I want to be able to see everything working which I can't do because gallery peeps won't release anything :(

Like you said though, they are working on one hack/product and they'd have already done the main work to get their product working so it wouldn't take them long to fix it again for RC3 ;) There are some great authors over at vborg who have got their hacks working with rc2, advanced have updated their package to work too, so I'm not sure why gallery peeps can't do the same! :)

Yeah you're right Fusion, I've just got my impatience head on today... I'm mighty impressed with the bug forum and how quickly bugs are found and squashed.. great job by both members and coders. :)

Where are you guys hearing that there is going to be an RC3? Or are you assuming? I figured it would be going gold this time around since it is so stable and what bugs there are, are completely trivial.

@Good2laugh
You think the galery and the cms would be a part of the board? Me not :)
Not everyone would use a galery or a cms with the forum. So it would be 3 products like now ...

Silly question here,
Is GOLD the same as the final stable release version?

Gold is a stable (supported) release, yes :)

Really depends on the bug situation...but i'd kinda doubt it at this point....though....they've done things to make me wrong before *glares at Staff* :p
