Hi,
I am not looking to start a I hate MS and all their products thread.
I took a look at OneCare and it seems pretty good, I wanted to see what you guys thought. I downloaded the triel on my laptop and like it so far.

For $49 a year, it covers three PC's, that's just the right number for me.

I know there are other tools out there, some that are free, but I like the idea of the bundle and automatic updates for it.

Any thoughts?

I like the fact that you can use it one more than one pc... MS should start doing that with its other programs.

I downloaded the beta...and have been using it ever since. I love it! Doesn't work with Vista...right now...but will soon!

I never paid the $49.99, but hasn't asked me for a serial number yet. So my advice is dl, and use it. If it asks for it, I would certainly pay for it!

It's like they're finally learning. Just a shame it's 5 years too late ;) I'm already using alternative software that basically does the same.

Maybe in a few years time when it becomes stable and I actually have some commercial use for it I might start using it.

What is it you are using instead?
Also, what about OneCare do you feel is unstable? I've only had it running for 1 week, but so far no problems.

I beleive it's a 90 day trial, then you'll need to pay.

If you do decide to get it, don't pay $50 for it. You can frequently get it for about $10 or even make money by buying it. Peruse the forums at http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/ (and then become addicted).

I liked OneCare and used it throughout the beta process. However I did uninstall it when the final release was made. The program worked well but simply didn't fulfill my needs due to inadequate backup methods. When they add the ability to backup to a network drive, I will look at it again.

Sorry to revive this old thread, but when I used OneCare the other day, I was able to back up to a network drive.

A mapped network drive such as //computername/backup or an external USB drive? They still don't list network backups as a feature.

I checked the Onecare Blog (http://windowsonecare.spaces.live.com/), the main site (http://www.windowsonecare.com/) and the beta page (http://ideas.live.com/ProgramPage.aspx?versionId=b2456790-90e6-4d28-9219-5d7207d94d45&pageId=0) at ideas.live.com and none of them mention networked backup yet.

Oh, perhaps I got an external USB drive confused, then. Because I have it set up where every computer in the house can access it, so I thought it was a network drive.
