If Materazzi had not insulted Zidane, he would not have had red card...

Actually, I believe Materazzi had done that on purpose to make Zidane lose his temper. A professional player should never respond to these efforts in the way Zidane just did today. It costs his team the Cup as other players got affected by it & it costs disrespect.

I know that, but why Materazzi had insulted Zidane? We never know....

No reason is needed; he wanted Zidane to lose his temper. It's really as simple as that.

Materazzi or whatever his name is must have said something horrific for someone to react like that.

But will we ever know exactly what was said...?

Players insult other players all the time, and they don't lose it like he did. It was sad to see such a highly-regarded player, in his last few minutes ever playing professional soccer, in the final match of the World Cup nonetheless, doing something like that.

Unbelievable, I did't saw the game, just the last minutes, but there is no reason in the world for a reaction like that in my opinion

Don't quote me on it as I haven't got Football Manager loaded right now, but I'm pretty sure Zidane played in Italy at some stage.

Zidane played in Italy from 1996 to 2001 (Juventus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinedine_Zidane)).
