Seems a little too good to be true.

So for 5 bucks a month you get 24 gigs of storage and 800 gigs of bandwidth? Not possible, in the least. AVOID!

Seems a little too good to be true. And you know what they say about that... if something is too good to be true, then it IS too good to be true!

As Zach suggests... beware - deals such as this are not possible. Do the maths, you'll work it out.

I had an account with siteground and at first it was great, then they started upgrading accounts offering silly amounts of discspace and bandwidth.

Once they did that people were complaining of slow sites and downtime (i was one of them).

I have now moved to my own server.

I was with siteground for less than a month.

Being naive and new to forum software i signed up, as soon as i had 15+ people on site at same time it would go to blank pages.

This was with there standard package. I was told I would need a vps, after a moan and another 2 weeks of trouble they put me on another server and told me they would monitor my use. I understand now with shared hosting its not so much about bandwidth use or diskspace but the resources needed to run a forum. Read the smallprint.

I got out before the contract kicked in and emailed a few hosts telling them i wanted to run a forum with maybe 30 users online max at one time. Went with icdsoft and not had 1 problem.

i am debating whether to just use my (unused) dedicated server. only problem is the php and mysql are out of date - and i havent a 'king clue how to upgrade them. hence my siteground discovery.

Those kind of prices are below what the bandwidth alone costs, let alone server and staffing costs. They are overselling. Works for the first two months then the wheels come off.
